Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno: Striker and Archer

Nepomuceno with his three Guinness records

Here’s another athletic Lasallian who is worth knowing! Rafael Nepomuceno or “Paeng” as we all know him, is one of the country’s most prized athletes. What country wouldn’t be proud if their own local bowling athlete was the only bowling athlete to receive the President’s Trophy from the International Olympic Committee? Not only that but he is OLD. No, not grandpa old but he has been honored with the privilege of being awarded by the Order of Lakandula which is one of the most prestigious honors given here in the Philippines.

Did I also mention that he has been in the Guinness Book of World Records three times? First, for most Bowling Cup wins, 4 in three different decades. Second, at age 19, for being the youngest ever to win the Bowling World Cup. Lastly, for having won the most number of bowling tournament titles with a total of 124! So there you have it, Paeng Nepomuceno: making bowling look cool since the 60’s. So to our other Lasallian star athletes out there, keep going for the gold because you’ll never know you might just be the next one in the Guinness Book.
